PhotoPixie Alpha

PhotoPixie creates professional looking, fast loading Flash based photo galleries with little effort. Highly customizable and simple to use, PhotoPixie will become a favorite in your website toolbox.

Please let me know what you think, as feedback is essential at this phase of development.

Example Gallery:

Pics from my folks place!
(this gallery took about 5 minutes to create, including the resizing, labeling, captioning and uploading)

Basic instructions for use

1. Launch PhotoPixie from the downloaded folder. An editor window will appear. Drag images from the Finder, iPhoto, or any web browser or other application which supports drag and drop, to the image list. You may change filenames and add labels and captions to each image. (Please note, although captions and labels can be included in the gallery, there is currently no option to save captions and labelsfor later editing. This function will appear in a future release.) You can also rotate images left or right to correct perspective to or from landscape or portrait.

2. Once you have imported a group of images to the editor, click on the basic tab. From here you will choose from several basic layout options. There is an option to create your own templates which will be listed in the template list.

3. Next, click the advanced tab. From here you can adjust finer details such as the maximum height and width of the full size and thumbnail images. You can also control image quality and various animation effects.

4. You may save your current setting as a template. Templates are stored in the PhotoPixie folder inside your user preferences folder. Click back to the basic tab for a preview of any layout changes you have made.

5. Click on the export tab. Here you can select a name for the gallery. A folder will be created by that name in the location you select. Note: If you select an existing folder, the files will be created in that folder. If you create a gallery by the same name, the old files will be overwritten.

6. Click the "Export" button. All files will be generated and the gallery will be opened in your default web browser.

7. You may edit the index.html file to fit your website. Upload the gallery folder to your hosting account. Note, the xml file, swf file, thumbs and pics folders must be at the same level on the server, or the gallery will not display correctly.
